PlymGo is the premier transport information website for Plymouth, Devon.

One of its key remits is that it offers a single information point for transport in the city, with a particular focus on making it easy for residents and visitors to compare diverse transport options in terms of duration, cost, convenience, environmental impact and contribution to health and wellbeing.

When a visitor requests a journey plan using PlymGo, the site consults its internal database plus data feeds from Plymouth City Council, Traveline SW, Google maps, the US Geologic survey and the BBC among others, to generate journey options which visitors can compare and then combine with a growing database of amenities, attractions and events as well as facilities such as car parks and cycle routes.

The long term goal is that PlymGo will become a critical resource in connecting the city's people with each other and with Plymouth as an urban space.

The site is still in an early stage of development but current features include:

• select a journey start/end point using an interactive map, postcode, street name or from a amenity or attraction in PlymGo's database
• compare the costs and benefits of walking, cycling, driving or taking public transport to your destination
• for each transport option get a route plotted on a Google map, plus directions
• combine your route with information about city features such as car parks, museums and theatres.

The following are currently under consideration for addition to this site, and some or all will appear in 2009:

• addition of real-time updates on car park availability
• integration of real-time bus timetables from Check That Bus
• improved carbon footprint and calorie calculations for site members
• the ability for city residents to upload information about city amenities, events, stories and photos.

So, whether you are trying to find a better way to get to work, a cycling fanatic who is looking for every cycle route in the city, a local who is wondering what 'hidden gems' are in the neighbourhood, or a visitor who is sightseeing, diving in Plymouth Sound or attending the Firework Championships, PlymGo can help you get the most from the city.
